Why Niova exists

Help exists. Finding it shouldn’t take a crisis.

Ontario has real mental health and substance use support — thousands of clinicians, peer workers, crisis lines, community programs, clinical trials. The problem isn’t scarcity. It’s that the system is impossible to see from the outside.

Waitlists, eligibility rules, referral forms, insurance codes, hours, catchment areas — the shape of the maze is the barrier. Most people give up before they ever get to a door.

“Niova exists to make the shape of the maze legible — so the next step is always clear, even when everything else isn’t.”

How we hold this responsibly

Five principles we don’t compromise on.

Safety first.

Every result is checked against a safety layer before it reaches you. Crisis resources are always one tap away — even mid-flow.

Private by architecture.

Nothing you enter is saved. No account. No cookies that follow you. Anonymous by default — because navigating help shouldn't cost you your privacy.

Verified or nothing.

Every resource is reviewed and re-verified on a schedule. If a service closes, changes eligibility, or stops being free, we take it down or update it — quickly.

Toward human care.

We're a signpost, not a replacement. Every path we surface leads to a real person, program, or research team — not another chatbot.

Free means free.

No paywall, no upsell, no data resale. Built by a nonprofit for the people who need it, funded to stay that way.

Begin when you’re ready.

The Navigator waits. There’s no wrong time to start, and no wrong answers.
